Baby girl with extra lower limb born

HYDERABAD- A Baby girl with an extra lower limb was born in Gynecology Unit IV at Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro on 26th July 2016.
While visiting the new born baby, the Vice Chancellor LUMHS Prof. Noshad A. Shaikh expressed that the baby is a case of Polymelia which is a very rare congenital anomaly with the presence of accessary limbs attached to various body regions.
He informed that the baby has all the normal systems in the body except the additional limb for which multidisciplinary approach/expert opinion is required involving Pediatric Surgery, Urology, Orthopedic Surgery, General Surgery and Radiology.
The Vice Chancellor announced to bear all the expenses for the total treatment of the baby. He directed the concerned departments to evaluate the treatment required for the baby and if the need arises the baby can be referred to any specific Hospital of the country for complete treatment on University’s expenses.
The baby belongs to a Jatoi family residing in Village Abdullah Chanro, District Jamshoro.
