ISLAMABAD -UNS – Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq inaugurated a monument constructed to pay tribute to unsung heroes of the democracy in the lawn in front of the Parliament House on Friday. Both the Speaker and Chairman Senate laid wreath at the memorial in a simple and elegant event participated by Deputy Chairman Senate, Molana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Leader of the House in Senate Raja Muhammad Zafar ul Haq as well as the Parliamentarian from both houses of the Parliament, members of civil society and media.
Speaking on the occasion Chairman Senate said that the present democratic rule in the country is due to unprecedented sacrifices of the political workers, intellectual, journalists, labourers, farmers, writers and people from different walks of life who are unsung heroes of the democracy.
He said that through an organized plan the benefits of the democracy has been under played and that of the dictatorship has been enhanced. He said that there are the political workers who were tortured and imprisoned in the Lahore Fort. A monument has been constructed in the lawn of the Parliament of the country to pay tribute to these unnamed heroes. He said that it is a small memorial with highly esteemed symbolism. Leadership of both the Houses have decided all the foreign dignitaries coming to the Parliament House would first pay visit to the monument of the unsung heroes and would lay wreath and pay homage to them.
Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that he cannot compare his political struggle with the sacrifices of the Chairman Senate for the democracy. He said that we should promote cultural of tolerance to discourage the design of the undemocratic forces. He said that this monument has been constructed to remember the sacrifices of the people who were not only tortured but imprisoned and some of them even scarified their lives.
In another event of launching of the “Report to the People” on completion of the Parliamentary Year of the Senate of Pakistan and different other publications of Senate Secretariat, Chairman Senate said that the nations cannot survive in a disconnect with the history. He said that unfortunately the State has destroyed the history and the political struggle of the people for the rule of law, democracy and supremacy of the Parliament have been marginalized. He said the performance of the Senate have been improved due to collective administrative approach of the House Business Committee. He appreciated the efforts of Secretary Senate Amjed Pervez Malik and Senate Secretariat for improving the performance of the House.
Deputy Chairman Senate Molana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said that Senate has promoted democratic cultural and access of the people to the Parliament and the Parliamentarians to the people they represent has increased. He said that the publications of the Senate would further promote the democratic culture.
Leader of the House Raja Muhammad Zafar ul Haq said that people want to know regarding the representatives and their efficiency in the Parliament. He said that Parliamentary outreach has enhanced due to provision of the information in a systematic manner through these publications of Senate Secretariat.
Leader of the Opposition in Senate Atizaz Ahsan said that remarkable change have been witnessed in the efficiency of Senate in the regime of Mian Raza Rabbani which would pave the way for further strengthening of the Federation.
Secretary Senate Amjed Pervez Malik apprised the participants that there is a zero pendency in the Parliamentary business of the Upper House of the Parliament and said that the publications speak volume of the efforts being done by the Senate of Pakistan under the Leadership of Mian Raza Rabbani. He gave a brief description of the different publications of the Senate Secretariat regarding rules, rulings of the Chair, Committees journal and Report to people of Pakistan.
