Interior Minister’s highly anticipated press conference postponed

BY IFTIKHAR MASHWANI

ISLAMABAD: The much anticipated press conference of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has been postponed.
As per details made available, the presser has been delayed for one day, and will now be conducted on Monday. It has been learnt that the reason behind this adjournment is Chaudhry Nisar’s illness, as he is suffering from back pain and has been advised to take rest.

Let it be known that this is not the first time that the interior minister has suffered from back pain, as he had postponed all official activities on Tuesday as well due to the same reason.

It is pertinent to mention that after Nisar earlier announced to exchange thoughts on his ongoing rift with the party, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique and another important member reached Punjab House to appease the displeased minister.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) members told the interior minister that he is an asset of the party, requested him to not hold the presser, and one federal minister even beseeches Ch Nisar by joining both hands in front of him told him.

Chaudhry Nisar told PML-N leaders that he is still bound to party discipline, and any sort of irresponsible behavior or statement should not be expected from him during the press conference, however, he possesses the right to express his complains.
The interior minister last made a brief appearance in the cabinet’s meeting on July 13 and left early.

Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal quoted Chaudhry Nisar referring to his 35 year-long association with PM Nawaz and describing his loyalty as an asset he was proud of in his political journey.

An hour later, a spokesman of interior ministry disputed the minister’s remarks, saying that nothing unpleasant happened and Chaudhry Nisar did not walk out of the cabinet meeting.

“We should avoid speculations and unrealistic comments with regard to remarks of interior minister during Cabinet meeting held on Thursday,” he said in a statement. There was no validity or truth in news telecast on some media channels in this regard, he added.

The spokesperson said Chaudhry Nisar could not attend the parliamentary party meeting of PML-N due to personal engagements, adding that he was unable to attend several parliamentary party meetings earlier as well.
