Pakistani documentaries nominated for Emmys

ISLAMABAD -UNS : Pakistanis can have a moment of pride as two of our films have been nominated for the 38th annual news and documentary Emmy Awards.

Pakistani filmmakers Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Mohammad Ali Naqvi are the ones carrying the torches of pride for us as their documentaries, A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness and Among the Believers, respectively, have been nominated for the international awards.

Sharmeen’s documentary A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness has earned three nominations in categories Best Documentary, Outstanding Short Documentary and Outstanding Music and Sound.

Naqvi’s film Among the Believers has been nominated in category Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary. The documentary, which has been banned in Pakistan, won two awards at Doc Edge, an international documentary film festival in New Zealand.

Documentary The Secret Life of Muslims produced by and featuring Iranian-American author Reza Aslan, has been nominated in category Outstanding Short Documentary and will be competing against Sharmeen’s A Girl in the River for the award.

Sharmeen Obaid previously won an Emmy for her documentary Children of Taliban and two Emmys for Saving Face. She has also bagged Oscars for Saving Face and A Girl in the River.

The News and Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented on October 5 in New York.
