Preparations for state funeral of Dr Ruth Pfau completed

KARACHI-UNS – The preparations for state funeral for Dr Ruth Katherina Martha Pfau, who spent over 50 years of her life to fighting leprosy in Pakistan, have completed in Karachi.

According to details, the final rituals of Pakistan’s ‘Mother Teresa’ will be offered at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Karachi as her body wrapped in national flag has been shifted to MALC Hospital from Holy Family Hospital.

Director General Rangers, Inspector General Sindh and other prominent personalities will participate in the funeral.

The 87-years-old German-Pakistani nun died on August 10 when she was admitted to Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre due to breathing difficulties.

In 1960, Dr Ruth decided to dedicate the rest of her life to the people of Pakistan and their battle against Leprosy. Patients from all over Pakistan and even Afghanistan came for their treatment in Karachi’s leprosy center. In recognition of her services to the country, she was awarded Pakistani citizenship in 1988.

She also received Hilal-i-Pakistan award for her work with leprosy patients in 1989.
