LHC reserves verdict on petition filed against PAT’s Mall Road protest

LAHORE – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday has reserved verdict on a petition filed against Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and united opposition’s sit-in on Mall Road over Model Town incident.

A full-bench headed by Justice Ameen-ud-Din conducted the hearing during which, Punjab Advocate General and Latif Khosa were also present.

Justice Shahid Kareem asked Advocate General that why Home Secretary didn’t appear in the court as he is answerable on this issue. He also inquired about the steps taken by Punjab government to stop the sit-in over which Advocate General said that the protesting parties have already been informed about the security threats.

The bench further remarked that there is no reference of any law quoted in the government notification which is strange.

It is to be mentioned here that the plea requested the court to disallow political parties to hold protest on Mall Road for security concerns.

Earlier on Monday, LHC had rejected the petition seeking to halt January 17 protest against the provincial authorities.
