Deadlock persists: Talks between two MQM-P groups underway

KARACHI -UNS : Efforts are underway to break the deadlock between two MQM-P factions who are at odds over selection of candidates for the upcoming Senate elections.

A three-member delegation led by MQM’s senior leader Amir Khan is holding talks with the party’s head Farooq Sattar at his residence.

The delegations, according to source, will try to persuade the veteran politician to cancel his rally and join the meeting of party leaders at Bahadurabad.

According to sources, Farooq Sattar has refused to bow down.

Yesterday, Farooq Sattar suspended the party’s Coordination Committee that met with Amir Khan in chair at the party’s temporary headquarters in Bahadurabad.

The MQM-P members led by Amir Khan suspended for six months a Coordination Committee member Kamran Tessori, who was being supported by Farooq Sattar.

Farooq Sattar presided over a separate meeting at the party headquarters in PIB Colony, and said at a late night press conference that he would not accept to be a powerless and ceremonial party head.

He said the rift in the party was not entirely linked with the Senate nominations and directed his workers to gather at PIB Colony’s KMC Stadium.

On the other hand, a separate convention was convened at Bahadurabad on the directives of Amir Khan.
