‘Policy to bring Pakistan under pressure won’t work’

WASHINGTON -UNS : Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday that any policy to bring Pakistan under pressure would not work, as he emphasised on the importance of Pakistan-American relations.

During the press conference, the interior minister said that Pakistan was conducting security operations against all terrorists without any discrimination.

He said that Pakistan was not ignorant of the threats that it was facing and the country desired to compete in progress and eliminate extremism.

The interior minister said that such decisions should not be taken that make institutions controversial. He called for allies to respect Pakistan’s territorial sovereignty and said that any policy to bring the country under pressure would not work.

“Pakistan is equally committed to eliminating the menace of terrorism from the world and the international community can only be able to overcome the challenge of violence through joint efforts,” he said.

Ahsan Iqbal called on the United States to build a ‘friendly, respectful’ relationship with Pakistan and said that the country was not looking for dollars but an alliance based on mutual respect.

In response to a question about the American leadership’s stance that Afghan Taliban have taken refuge in Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal said that terrorists were terrorists regardless of which side of the border they were in.

The interior minister also spoke about the peace process in Afghanistan and said that Pakistan was an important stakeholder. He stressed that for peace to prevail in Afghanistan, it was important that ties between Pakistan and the United States were strengthened.
‘We have turned the country around–the backs of terrorists have been broken’

At an event held at the Pakistani embassy in Washington, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that the country had been turned around as the backs of terrorists had been broken.
