ISLAMABAD – President working Journalists Association and Vice President of PFUJ Iftikhar Mashwani has thanked Secretary Information Akbar Durrani for releasing funds to Press Clubs.
The current government will also take steps to address the problems of journalists on a priority basis, he said.
Referring to his meeting with federal minister , he said that Information Minister Mr Shibli Faraz and Information Secretary have fulfilled their promise and have resolved this dilemma by issuing grants to press clubs across the country.
Iftikhar Mashwani during his last meeting with the Information Minister said that the journalist communities across the country are facing difficulties at the moment and the government should announce a relief package for journalists on a priority basis.
He appealed to the Information Minister that the Corona epidemic had also affected the media sector like other areas of life while journalists are playing a front line role in this current critical situation.
Iftikhar also appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to announce a solid and comprehensive relief package for journalists.
Hundreds of journalists have lost their jobs in the current situations and small/regional newspapers are facing many problems and it would be correct to say that they are fighting for their survival.
“Given all these circumstances, the advertisement quota of regional newspapers should be restored. Not issuing quotas for regional newspapers at that time would be tantamount to killing them” he said.
Expressing his views, Iftikhar Mashwani added, “I see the current situation getting very serious and if the regional newspapers are ignored time is not far away when journalists will be compelled to end their lives and the lives of their families.” if that happens then history will never forgive us.
